Under development

In the northernmost part of Deep Forest Art Land, an architectural structure is being built that will create new opportunities for recreation, artistic experiences, and community in nature. The area is being developed as a place where visitors can meet, spend time, and experience the forest in new ways all year round.

The Shelter is expected to be completed in 2027 and will serve as a new gathering place along the trail through Deep Forest Art Land.

Works

A space between forest and architecture

The Shelter takes shape around a circular forest space, where architectural elements create shelter, gathering places, and new views of the landscape.

The area is not intended to be a building separate from the forest, but rather a part of it. Here, trees, the sky, the weather, and architecture come together in a shared space that can be experienced differently throughout the day and the year.

In some places, the area opens up to the surrounding forest. In others, the structure creates spaces for relaxation, socializing, and contemplation. Visitors will be able to move through the area, find places to settle in, and experience how the architecture relates to the landscape in which it is situated.

The Shelter is being developed as a place that can accommodate both the quiet retreat of individual visitors and larger shared experiences. A place where nature remains the defining framework, but where new opportunities for togetherness arise.

A gathering place

Deep Forest Art Land was created around the intersection of art and landscape. Many visitors experience the site on a walk through the forest, where works of art appear along the way.

The Shelter is being developed with the aim of creating a gathering place.

Here, there will be room for breaks, conversations, and shared experiences—but also for those moments when you simply want to spend time in the forest. The area is designed to allow visitors to return throughout the year and experience the place under different weather conditions, seasons, and activities.

At the same time, The Shelter creates new opportunities to bring people together around artistic projects, learning, and community. Not as something separate from the forest, but as a way of being within it.

The Shelter is being developed as a place where art, nature, and people can come together year-round.

Art and The Shelter

As part of the development of The Shelter, several artists are being invited to create works specifically for the area.

The artworks are developed in dialogue with the landscape, the architecture, and the people who will use the space. Some artworks will have a distinct presence in the area, while others will be integrated into the functions and experiences that The Shelter offers.

The artworks thus become more than just something to look at. They become part of the way the area is used and experienced. They can serve as gathering places, vantage points, or places to linger, or they can offer new perspectives on the surrounding landscape.

Together with The Shelter, these works help shape the area’s identity and create a close connection between art, nature, and the people who visit the site.

All year round

Once The Shelter is completed, the area will serve as a venue for activities throughout the year.

Here, artists will be able to work, experiment, and invite the public to participate in their creative processes. Schools, organizations, and local communities will be able to come together around projects and activities, and visitors will be able to participate in events, workshops, and special occasions.

Some activities will be based on art. Others will focus on nature, crafts, or community. What they all have in common is the desire to create a place where people don’t just visit Deep Forest Art Land, but also have the opportunity to participate, contribute, and be part of what’s happening.

At the same time, on many days, The Shelter will simply be a place to spend some time. A place to take shelter, eat a packed lunch, meet up with others, or take a break while walking through Nordskoven.
