Camp Flag was created as part of our 2019 summer camp, INGRID - Deep Forest Art Camp. There, Pernille explored a solemn Scout tradition: the flag.
The days at a typical Scout camp always begin with a group flag-raising ceremony. Pernille made a large camp flag as well as a number of smaller patrol flags for the summer camp. The images on the flags were originally painted using makeup such as eyeshadow and blush, based on colors chosen by the girls participating in the camp. The painted images were then photographed and digitally enlarged, after which they were printed on fabric and sewn into flags. The camp flag was raised every morning on a flagpole, while the smaller flags were used by the girls during their daily patrols and other activities in the forest, including discussions around the campfire about the young people’s performances.
Today, Camp Flag still hangs from the flagpole at Deep Forest Art Land.
