Works by Christine Dahlerup

Title: Dust, dust again, hands covered in dust, dust in the water, dust on my face. Sand and gravel and water and cement in my lungs. If I do this again, I’ll have to wear a mask to protect my lungs from the dust. Nemesis: My lungs are turning to stone, filled with particles of rock. “Stone lungs” sounds more down-to-earth, but the medical term for the disease—silicosis—scares me. What have I created, and why have I created this? Petrifications both inside and outside my lungs. Constructed, man-made fossils—because the imprint of an animal or a plant in stone is only a fossil when it’s over 10,000 years old. Trace fossils are traces of living beings’ activities. Forestry operations, picnic areas, and extra-strong mustard that can chip the enamel off your teeth.
