Deep Forest Art Land is a living landscape where students encounter contemporary art in the heart of nature. Here, the forest becomes a space for curiosity, exploration, and shared reflection, where the artworks spark questions, offer new perspectives, and open up new ways of experiencing the world.

A visit invites students to explore their surroundings using their bodies, senses, and imagination. Along the way, conversations and insights emerge about art, nature, and our relationship to the place we find ourselves in. The artworks become not just something to look at, but something to examine, interpret, and make sense of together.

We welcome elementary schools. Upon arrival, a guide will greet you and provide an introduction to the area, the art, and the practical details, so that you’ll have the best possible start to your visit.

On this page, you can read more about visit options, prices, practical information, rules, and booking for elementary schools.

All visits are by appointment only.

Why visit Deep Forest Art Land?

A unique encounter with art outside the classroom.

Spend the day together in the woods, with time for exploration, conversation, and breaks.

Choose the type of visit that best suits your class and your objectives.

Responsibilities and Guidelines for the Visit

Deep Forest Art Land is not a classroom or a museum with fixed walls. Here, we move through a living landscape where art, nature, and people come together. That is why the presence of adults is an important part of the visit—both for the children’s sake, for the experience itself, and for the works of art and natural areas that we care for together.

Adults and Supervision

The following applies to school classes:

One class must be accompanied by at least 2 adults.
Two classes must be accompanied by at least 4 adults.

For larger groups, there must be at least 2 adults per class or group.

The accompanying adults are responsible for supervising the students throughout the visit. Students are not allowed to wander around the area alone without supervision.

Deep Forest Art Land is a large forested area with works of art scattered along trails, in forest glades, and throughout the landscape. In addition, cell phone reception is limited in several areas. If a situation arises where help is needed, it is therefore important that one adult stay with the group while another goes to get assistance.

Attentive adults not only contribute to a sense of safety and security, but also to creating the best possible environment for students to engage with art, nature, and one another.

Accessibility

Deep Forest Art Land is an open-air art landscape. We strive to ensure that as many people as possible can have a safe and enjoyable experience in the forest—regardless of their needs and circumstances.

Here you'll find information about terrain, routes, restroom facilities, rest stops, and other details that may be relevant before your visit.

Are you from the municipality of Herning?

Elementary schools in Herning Municipality can visit Deep Forest Art Land for free on select days and receive an introduction to the area upon arrival. Visits must be booked in advance.

In addition, during the spring and fall, daycare centers can use the Culture Bus, which makes it easier to take the children on outings to art and cultural experiences outside the center.

Practical Information

  • We welcome all types of elementary schools—including public schools, independent schools, and special education classes.

  • We recommend that you set aside between 2 and 4 hours for your self-guided visit.

A guided sensory tour typically lasts about 3 hours, including a break for a packed lunch. On self-guided tours, you set your own pace and determine the length of your visit.

You are welcome to visit the forest during our opening hours, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.

  • Yes. There are two composting toilets in the forest—one near the parking area and one near the Gothic Quarter.

Both are easily accessible and can be used by wheelchair users.

  • Yes. There are several places where groups can eat their own packed lunches. You can also reserve a covered picnic area in the Gothic Quarter or the Sculpture Garden when you make your booking.

  • Don't forget your packed lunch, water bottle, and clothes appropriate for the weather.

There is no place to refill water bottles, and the visit takes place outdoors year-round. We therefore recommend practical clothing and footwear so that students and adults can move freely through the forest.
