The work “Burning Sphere in the Woods” by Ida Lundø and Sara Kier, two visual artists with degrees in architecture, is part of the 2021 Socle du Monde Biennial. A living sculpture created from fire, round like a meteor or the sun, capable of burning and immortalizing both itself and other ceramic objects. It is constructed from brick-shaped clay elements, precisely calculated to form the perfect sphere. “The spaces emerged naturally from the joints between the ‘bricks,’” explain Ida and Sara, who, as architects, are both interested in exploring sustainable materials in their practice—which is one of the reasons they chose clay as the sole ingredient in their collaborative work.

The Artist
Sara Kier and Ida Lundø are two visual artists with degrees in architecture from the Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts, School of Architecture in Copenhagen. They have both been involved in various architectural projects for different art festivals and events. Their projects range from working with architecture as an abstract structure—where they seek to question the space and culture around them—to exploring architecture in a more defined way, working with both interior concepts and building projects.
