Entomology is the study of insects, and *An Entomological Communication* deals not only with evolution and the origin of new species, but also with nature’s extreme fragility. The artists’ goal with this work is to highlight nature’s fragility and delicate aspects. By moving an artificial “exhibition environment” out into nature, Bank and Bøggild seek to challenge the concept of naturalness.
The starting point consists of 83 butterflies and insect boxes containing whole insects and insect parts, wings, antennae, etc. Bank and Bøggild have curated the collection and added external objects to create “a new nature,” which is displayed in a glass case in a forest clearing. Bank and Bøggild explore the phenomenon of species addition and are interested in the principles behind the transformation insects undergo during the process of creation.
