For several years, Kirsten Otzen Keck has been interested in images from her surroundings and the media—and in collective narratives. Images and stories that everyone sees live on in our own memories, personal iconography, and perception of reality, and are transformed into new forms of expression. Otzen Keck collects stories and images that can be seen as signs of a “shared public identity,” where the individual and the collective overlap, blend, and give rise to one another.
She often works on groups of works over the course of a year, beginning a project by searching for characters, themes, and images in a given location. She weaves these together with traces of her own experience and fiction. Found visual material is blended with her own footage, texts, and sound in animated videos, collages, and installations. She employs both digital and analog techniques.
