Nemorial is located in the southern part of Deep Forest Art Land.

Nemorial is a monument to the ultra-personal yet completely anonymous NemID key card, which was in use from 2010 to 2023 and served as the official login solution in the Realm of Denmark.

The used NemID key card hanging in Deep Forest Art Land thus carries a record of various actions over time. A sort of self-portrait of an unknown citizen that summarizes various private actions—perhaps ranging from divorce and doctor’s visits to tax payments and the intranet at the children’s school?

The physical, analog Nemorial consists of a NemID key card (T900-036-686) embossed in steel (1:1) suspended from a slender pine tree in Deep Forest Art Land (at coordinates 55° 55′ 09.59″ N 08° 54′ 46.85″), while the digital Nemorial can be found at www.nemorial.dk and is a digital memorial wall.
The NemID key card T900-036-686 was donated by an unknown citizen, just as all the other NemID key cards found at www.nemorial.dk were also donated by anonymous citizens.

The Artist

Niels Lyhne Løkkegaard

Niels Lyhne Løkkegaard works within a multidisciplinary artistic practice that ranges from composition and sound art to performance, conceptual art, and visual art.

He regards his work as fundamental research into realities and is interested in how bubble-like systems manifest themselves as human conditions.

Løkkegaard is particularly interested in the concept of instrumentalization and what (Western) instruments can signify, as well as what they can control and accomplish. Consequently, he often works with musical instruments not only as sources of sound, but also as cultural markers embedded in various systems and hierarchies. This drives Løkkegaard’s work and has led to musical compositions that can be performed by people with or without prior musical knowledge or training.
