John Kørner has always been fascinated by factories and their aesthetics. As he himself says in an interview with Bente Jensen from Kunsten.nu:
“Factories are amazing. They are monumental works with their own beauty, sense of well-being, and visionary ideas. They embody the idea of production—of something or other. And there is a grandeur to factory buildings that stands out beautifully in romantic settings like a forest. [...] I like the element of surprise that my factory holds, given that it’s situated in a romantic setting—a forest. From a distance, it resembles the outline of a factory, and the smoke suggests as much. The fact that the factory turns out to be a shelter where people can spend the night and stay warm is a social function of the work that suits me perfectly. My previous factories have only been temporary in nature. PRODUZIONE is the first more permanent work. And it incorporates the functionality of a shelter.”
