"The Plaza" is a permanent bonfire site created for the association "Billedhuggerhaven Skovsnogen" (The Sculpture Garden Skovsnogen), which is a loose association of artists, including former students from the School of Sculpture at the Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts in Copenhagen and other interested individuals. The purpose is to serve as an informal place to work and share thoughts and ideas. The fire pit was created with the aim of establishing a gathering place for the association, and we hoped it would serve a similar function to a fountain in the town square in times before running water—a place where people went out of necessity, but also to meet their neighbors. The shape of the fire pit itself is inspired by Baroque fountains, but with its rough surface, it references a type of communal fire pit often found in outdoor recreational areas—created simply by placing benches around a concrete sewer pipe. The seating around the fire pit is arranged as an asymmetrically mirrored amphitheater, cast in concrete and colored in shades of green and brown to blend into the surrounding forest.

The Artists
Anna Moderato is a visual artist based in Copenhagen. She works with sculpture, installation, text, and performance, as well as creating spatial narratives and site-specific interventions that penetrate everyday spaces. Her works are unstable and distorted reflections of our shared reality, in which misunderstandings and the idea of language as a distorted materialization of our thoughts and longings are recurring themes. She holds a B.A. from Chelsea College of Art in London and an M.A. from the Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts in Copenhagen.
