Deep Forest Art Land to Hold a Groundbreaking Ceremony at the Sculpture Cemetery.
Come join us as the first exhibition opens and 20 works of art begin a new life in the forest. Here, nature is not merely a backdrop but a co-star, and the works are allowed to evolve in harmony with the landscape around them.
A Different Life for Art
Every year, works of art are created for exhibitions and projects that eventually come to an end. These works are left over—not because they lack artistic merit, but because the traditional logic of exhibitions does not always provide an answer to what happens afterward.
With "Rejsegilde," Deep Forest Art Land explores another possibility.
On August 15, 2026, the first exhibition will open at the Sculpture Cemetery. Here, 20 works of art by Danish contemporary artists will be reinstalled—works that have already been exhibited but are now given the opportunity to continue their story in the forest.
Here, they encounter the seasons, the rain, and the wind. They are allowed to change—to weather, to grow, to darken, and to slowly blend into nature on their own terms.
Why a topping-out ceremony?
A topping-out ceremony marks the moment when a building has reached the completion of its basic structure but is not yet finished. It celebrates the fact that something has taken shape while work continues.
The same is true of the Sculpture Cemetery.
The site is slowly taking shape. New works are being installed, paths are emerging, and nature continues to do its work. Rain, wind, and the changing seasons become part of what shapes the area, and over time, art and landscape merge.
A topping-out ceremony therefore does not mark the end of a project, but rather the beginning of a place that continues to evolve.
Exhibition Series
August 15, 2026
A topping-out ceremony marks the opening of the first exhibition at the Sculpture Cemetery. This is where the works’ new life in the forest begins, and the public is invited to join in from the very start.
August 2027
After one year, the exhibition series concludes with a ceremonial procession. This marks the end of this exhibition—and, at the same time, a new chapter in the Sculpture Cemetery’s ongoing development.
