Klangbund consists of a sculptural score, situated in a small clearing among large, moss-covered spruce trees. The score functions as a diagram of the various organic materials at play here: the elongated movement of the trees’ root systems, which spans many hundreds of years, and the microorganisms in our bodies, which are constantly being replaced.
For the work’s opening, a sound performance was staged that mediates the pulse and movement created by the trees’ underground processes—things we normally cannot hear or pay attention to.
